General Information
A Master Plumber can design, install, construct, replace, service, repair, alter, or modify the pipes, fixtures, and other apparatus used for bringing the water supply into a building and removing liquid and water-carried wastes from a building. A Master Plumber can also install and connect gas piping.

You need a Master HVACR or Master HVACR Restricted license in addition to a Master Plumber license if you design, install, construct, maintain, service, repair, alter, or modify a product or equipment including gas piping in heating and air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, or process cooling or heating systems. Selecting Type of Application
The application asks you to select whether you are applying by examination or reciprocity. Whether you are applying by examination or reciprocity determines the types of documents you are required to submit.
- If you hold a current Plumber license in another state, U.S. territory or the District of Columbia, apply by reciprocity.
- If you do not hold a current Plumber license in another state, U.S. territory or the District of Columbia, apply by examination.
In the state of Pennsylvania, Plumbing licenses are not issued by a state board. If the only current license you hold was issued by a Pennsylvania municipality or other jurisdiction, you must apply by examination.
Requirements for All Applicants
These requirements apply to both reciprocity and examination applications.
- Submit a completed, signed and Application for Master Plumber Licensure. Applications that are incomplete, unsigned or not notarized will be rejected.
- Enclose the non-refundable processing fee by check or money order made payable to “State of Delaware.” Applications submitted without this processing fee will be rejected.
- If you have ever held an individual Master Plumber license in any other kind of jurisdiction, arrange for the Board office to receive a Verification of Licensure (included with application) sent directly from each jurisdiction.
- The jurisdiction may be a state, U.S. territory, District of Columbia or any other governmental jurisdiction such as a city or county.
- If a license was for a plumbing business that covered all its employees, instead of your own license as an individual, it is not necessary to obtain a license verification for that business.
- If you have never been issued a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN), submit a
Request for Exemption from Social Security Number Requirement.

- A “Journeyman Certificate” is issued by a federally-approved plumbing apprenticeship program such as the Delaware Department of Labor.
- The Proving Your Experience section below explains what documentation you must submit to establish that you have the required years of experience.
- When the Board approves you to sit for the Master exam, the Board office will send you a candidate information packet. For more information about the Master exam, see Testing.
Additional Requirements for Reciprocity Applications
The following requirements apply to applications by reciprocity in addition to the requirements in the Requirements for All Applicants section above.
If none of the jurisdictions where you hold a current license has licensure standards that are “substantially similar” to those of Delaware, proof of experience is required. The table below shows whether to submit proof of experience.

Proving Your Experience
The sections above on Requirements for Examination Applications and Requirements for Reciprocity Applications, whichever applies to you, explain when to submit proof of your experience and how many years of experience you need. The following explains what documents you must submit.
- To prove your work experience for periods of employment, arrange for your supervisor(s) to complete the Verification of Employment included in the application packet. If you cannot obtain the required Verification of Employment form from the supervisor, you may substitute tax form W-2 or an affidavit of the employer or officer of the employing company. You must also enclose a statement explaining why you cannot obtain the Verification of Employment form from the supervisor.
- To prove your work experience for periods of self-employment, you may submit tax form Schedule C.
- Acceptance of proof of experience is at the Board’s discretion.
The following tips may be used to refine or modify searches by entity number or entity name for a particular entity:
Entity Number Search
- The entity number is the identification number issued to the entity by the California Secretary of State at the time the entity formed, qualified, registered or converted in California.
- If searching for a corporation by entity number, the letter 'C' must be entered followed by the applicable seven-digit entity number.
Example: Searching for C0254285 will return X,Y,Z CORPORATION. Searching for 0254285 will return no results.
- If searching for a limited liability company or limited partnership by entity number, enter only the applicable 12-digit entity number.
Example: Searching for 200100410071 will return RESEARCH & RETRIEVAL, LLC. Searching for 0100410071 will return no results.
Entity Name Search
The search is NOT case sensitive. All letters will be treated as uppercase.
Keyword
Enter one or more known words (i.e., Keywords) that are part of the entity name.
- Punctuation: The search will remove the following punctuation and group together any letter or number characters that immediately appear before or after that punctuation:

Examples:
- Searching for D.A.R.E. will return entities that include D.A.R.E. in the name and entities that include DARE in the name.
- Searching for A. B. C. will return entities that include A, B and C in the name.
- Spacing Matters: Do not remove spaces that are part of an entity name or add spaces that are not part of an entity name. Spacing is not ignored by the search.

- Searching for A.B.C. ESCROW CO. or ABC ESCROW CO will return no business entities.

- For best results: Distinctive or unique keywords should be used when searching, if possible. Searching a distinctive or unique keyword will narrow the search results. Examples of distinctive or unique words: COMPENSATORY, HICKORY, MARSHMALLOW, ERUDITE.
- For more limited results:Search for multiple keywords. Searching multiple keywords will return a list of only those entities containing all of the keywords used in the search. Note, including a word that is not part of the entity name may result in no matching record.
Examples:
- Searching for ADVANCED DATA will return entity names containing both words such as ADVANCED DATA COMMUNICATIONS LLC if searching limited liabilities and ADVANCED DATA PROTECTION SERVICES, INC. if searching corporations
- Searching for ADVANCED DATA COMMUNICATIONS will return entity names containing all three words such as ADVANCED DATA COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS and ADVANCED DATA COMMUNICATIONS LLC.
- For more expanded results:Search for a single keyword. Searching a single keyword will return a broad list of entities containing that word in the entity name.
Examples:
- Searching SIMPLE will return all entity names containing the word SIMPLE such as SIMPLE INC., SIMPLE DESIGN, INC. if searching corporations and MAKE IT SIMPLE, LLC if searching limited liability companies.
- Keyword length is limited: If you enter a keyword that is more than 12 characters long, the search will ignore the additional characters. Example: If a keyword is DISTRIBUTIONS, the search will look for DISTRIBUTION.
Exact
Enter the exact name of the entity, including spaces AND any punctuation that are part of the name. The omission or addition of spaces and punctuation that are not part of the name will result in no records found, or a different entity than intended.
Begins with
Enter one or more of the first words of the entity’s name. The results will include the entities whose names have that word or string of words as the first word or words of their name, including entities that have additional words in their names.
Helpful Hint: If you are not able to locate an entity record, you may wish to try a broader search by searching for fewer keywords or a 'begins with' search if you know one or more of the first words of the entity's name, or you may request a more extensive search by ordering a status report.
