Issue:

Autodesk software product configured with a network license, at startup opens the FlexNet License Finder window asking to specify the license server system. However, after entering the server name or address, the product fails to acquire a license and may return a further error message.

Causes:

Possible causes:

Incorrect license type was selected on Let's Get Started window.
The license server is not running or it is in sleep mode.
The contents of licpath.lic is corrupted.
The software points to the wrong server or one without an actively running license daemon.
A firewall is blocking the license request or the default port is blocked.
A AntiVirus program is blocking the exe-file for the product (for example, acad.exe for AutoCAD).
The license request time out.

Solution:

Verify that the software is set to run with the correct license type

If 'Multi-user' license type was selected by mistake for Single-user Subscription licensed software, the FlexNet License Finder dialog box will appear as the software will be looking for a license server it can obtain a license from.

To correct the license type regenerate LGS.data file as follows:

Rename following folder

On Windows: C:ProgramDataAutodeskCLMLGS
On macOS: /Library/ApplicationSupport/Autodesk/CLM/LGS

Start the software
Select appropriate license type 'Single-user' or 'enter a serial number' based on the license type.

If software license type is Multi-user (Network License) verify following:

Check that the license server is running and not in sleep mode

Ensure the workstation/server is running during working hours.
Verify that Autodesk Network License Server service is running on the license server system.
Disable sleep mode so the workstation/server never goes to sleep. In the Power Options control panel, set Change When The Computer Sleeps to Never.
Refer to how to setup Autodesk Network License Manager articles under see also section to verify that the server is setup correctly.

Verify the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE registry key is set on the client machine

Type regedit in the Windows Search box and hit Enter key
Navigate to the following registry key

Selected the key, then look in right panel to see the ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE value key.
- Note: If ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE key does not exist. Follow these steps to create ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE system variable, then skip to Step 5.
Double click the key to open it in edit mode, to see its value.

Note: the correct value for ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE can be:
- The license server name or the license server IP address preceding with @ sign.
- The path to the folder where LICPATH.lic file is located (in redundant or single server environment).

If the license server is configured to use a specific TCP port, the port number can be seen in front of the @ sign. The key value may have multiple license server information separated with ';' semicolon.
For example, the following screenshot shows ADSKFLEX_LICENSE_FILE key value: @BOSPF18W5EW;C:ProgramDataAutodeskCLMLGS001K1_2019.0.0.F
Where @BOSPF18W5EW identifies the license server, while C:ProgramDataAutodeskCLMLGS001K1_2019.0.0.F is the folder path for LICPATH.lic file for AutoCAD 2019.
